I eat mostly a ketogenic / paleo diet. I have Type One Diabetes and it is always a struggle to keep my blood sugars under control. Since starting on a ketogenic diet about a year ago, it has been a bit easier and more predictable , and I need all the help I can get during this busy phase of motherhood.
BUT I HAVE A SWEET TOOTH. And it throws me off track more than I’d care to admit. I will go through periods of time where I really could care less about anything sweet, but then OH MAN. The sugar cravings hit me hard. Instead of living in the binge and restrict lifestyle of 100% no sugar then blowing it out one day when all I want to eat is ice cream.. I have adopted the intuitive eating method of allowing myself to have a little bit when I am craving it and hopefully a small amount is satisfying to my brain and I can enjoy without the massive guilt and massive stomach ache that comes after a sweets binge.
So here’s my secret weapon. Full fat plain greek yogurt with tart berries. It satisfies all those ice cream qualities and I get a sugar-ish fix without actually even consuming that much sugar or carbs. My fave go-to brand for this right now are the Fage Split Cups 30% less sugar in strawberry or raspberry flavor. They only have 13-14 carbs each and 11 grams of sugar ( and a plus is its natural sugars) It is an easy sweet treat that I have been having anytime I’m craving desserts and it hits the spot every time.
My kids love it too and I am trying to do better at feeding them a more paleo style diet as well – so this is a go to fave for when they ask for pancakes or sugary cereals or other grain filled “kid foods” and they don’t seem to miss it. #momwin!
Any time I can make it easy on myself to have a healthy on the go option or sweet alternative – I do. I grabbed mine from Target bc… I am always at Target for something. But you can find them at most grocery stores! Learn more about the FAGE split cups here.
Also – I eat blackberries like they are candy. And so does June. It cracks me up how fast this girl can down an entire costco sized pack of blackberries. At least they are low in sugar and high in fiber right?
