Thank you First Alert for sponsoring this post. Help ensure your home and family is protected with CO alarms!
Most families don’t understand the Dangers of Carbon Monoxide. Did you know that just one plastic shower curtain contains enough Carbon Monoxide to kill 200 people if it caught fire?! Yep, that’s right. I learned that in a Fire Safety course I took with my kids at the local Fire Station. Isn’t that insane? How can we have such toxic dangerous products hanging around our homes without knowing it? I think these things should come with big fat warning labels. But hey, that’s the world we live in right now. So many things are ready and able to put toxins and harmful chemicals into our bodies. The best weapon against them is knowledge and PREVENTION.
However, just because your house doesn’t catch fire doesn’t mean you aren’t at risk for CO poisoning. Carbon Monoxide is produced with many household appliances, such as your stove, fireplace and water heater. It is important to make sure to have your fuel-burning devices checked annually. That is oftentimes super close to the places my children play and sleep. Right next to my kid’s playroom is the bathroom and attic with HVAC stuff in it. As well as their main play space is right off the kitchen so if there were to be a co leak, they would be affected immediately. Staying aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide is important in keeping my family safe. Especially with their tiny little bodies not being able to process toxic air like adults can.
We have a historic farmhouse built in 1900 and although it has been beautifully restored, there are still old pipes, older HVAC ducting and other things that pose a risk for us. Gas fireplaces are also a very common source of CO leaks / poisonous levels of gas. There are tons of carbon monoxide dangers looming around our home.
The scariest thing about CO to me is that it is known as the silent killer. It is completely odorless and undetectable without a carbon monoxide alarm. However, there is an easy and affordable way to protect your family – with CO alarms!! First Alert makes these 10-year sealed battery carbon monoxide alarms that detect dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. It is designed to sit on top of a dresser or tabletop, and it has a backlit digital display that shows temperature and peak levels of CO (when detected). Also, who has time to keep up with changing the battery/ testing it. I certainly don’t. As a mom of two young kids and a business owner, my list and memory are already full to the max. So I need solutions that are safe, easy and take care of themselves.
This CO alarm provides hassle-free protection by eliminating the need for battery replacements for 10 years. After 10 years, you will hear an end of life warning, letting you know it is time to replace (alarms don’t last forever and should be replaced at least every 10-years). Also, ZERO installation is required. Just remove it from the packaging, activate it and then set it on your shelf or tabletop and rest easy knowing that you will be alerted to any CO dangers. I have one in every major room of our home. You can find out more about the alarms and how to purchase them here!

Great post. These are so very necessary to have in your home. Especially with little ones running around. We have several fire alarms on all levels of our house as well as carbon monoxide detectors in a few rooms. Better safe that sorry, it may be overkill but at least we know we’re covered.
