Taking self timer pics of myself and with my kids is a staple skill for me as a blogger and instagrammer, and yes, I now have several tripods and a fancy camera, but it hasn’t always been that way! I got started with, (and still sometimes use) my iPhone and an everyday home object to capture shots in the moment!
Some of my favorite home items to create a makeshift tripod out of everyday home items are:
Shoes are the easiest, tennis shoes or trainers work best for this. Mugs are a second best choice, depending on what model of phone you have you might need to use a wider mouth mug. I have also found that taking my phone case off is helpful when I have to use a mug. Most cases will make the phone too wide to fit into the mug opening.
Our last tip on how to make a tripod from everyday home items is simple. Set your phone down into the shoe or mug and place it on a level surface. Then open up your Photo timer app and get to shooting! If a level surface is hard to find, you can always fix that later in Lightroom if it’s not too terribly tilted. I’ve got an article here on my favorite photo editing apps and how I edit. So you can see how to correct those photos that might end up a little tilted. All the photos in this post were taken on self timer!
